Today’s dermal fillers can do so much more than just correcting wrinkles: it is more like a “mini facelift” with the ability to add volume and contour your facial features including nose, lips, cheeks, temples, jawline, and even depressed scars.
At Richmond Laser Skin Care & Wellness Centre, Dr. Phoebus Wong offers different types of popular dermal fillers approved by Health Canada:
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers: including the Juvederm family (Voluma, Vobella, Ultra Plus), the Anteis Family (Modelis, Estelis, Fortelis), Restylane, Perlane and Teosyal. These fillers are made with cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally substance found in almost every single living creature and highly compatible with our bodies. Augmentation results usually last from 6 months to 1 year, depending on type of HA fillers and area of injection.
Radiesse, a Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a sodium carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier: The action of Radiesse is supposed to stimulate the injection site’s own collagen growth, therefore the results of injection should be longer lasting than HA filler – normally at least a year to two years. CaHA microspheres will naturally degrade to calcium and phosphate ions, which are metabolized by the body’s normal processes.
Semi-permanent fillers: Artesense (Bovine collagen + polymethyl methacrylate)- last up to 5 years or above, depending on individual condition
- Need topical or local anesthetic prior to treatment
- Results should be immediate, but there will be post-treatment swelling and/or bruising. Such side effects should subside in a few days
- A touch up injection may be necessary in the next 4 months for best results
